About this opportunity Original employer description Staff Engineer – Systems Engineering
Are you an experienced Staff Engineer – Systems Engineering looking for a new challenge?
Do you enjoy being part of team that provides high-quality engineering for our customers?
Role Summary
As a Staff Engineer in Systems Engineering, you will provide technical leadership for the design, development, integration, and execution of auxiliary systems for turbomachinery applications. You will lead projects or complex subsystems, ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and Baker Hughes engineering processes, and serve as the technical focal point from proposal support through commissioning and field operations.
Typical Responsibilities
Lead project evaluation, design, analysis, testing, and integration in accordance with sound engineering principles, business practices, and project requirements. Apply expertise in engineering, product design, manufacturing, reliability, and testing to translate customer and product needs into system and component requirements. Maintain a thorough understanding of the system’s intended use, required capabilities, interfaces, and each element’s role in the delivered configuration. Lead the development and finalization of auxiliary-system deliverables, including P&IDs, process data sheets, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, calculations, and supporting design documents. Provide technical expertise in centrifugal compressor auxiliary systems, including dry gas seal and lubrication systems, seal gas heaters, boosters, control valves, pressure safety valves, and filters. Lead system design reviews, ensure timely and high-quality closure of actions, and serve as design team leader when assigned. Apply relevant engineering practices, international codes, standards, and specifications, including API 614, API 692, ASME, and PED, as applicable. Lead the review and integration of supplier documents, including general arrangement and detail drawings, calculations, data sheets, and interface information. Provide engineering support for kick-off meetings, customer reviews, supplier discussions, testing, commissioning, and field issue resolution. Participate in or lead customer HAZOP and SIL reviews to protect personnel and asset integrity. Use modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Flow-MASTER, or Aspen HYSYS to support predictive design and technical decisions. Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to internal and external customers and provide Product Line support as needed. Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineers, Lead Engineers, and Senior Engineers. Contribute to technical design and program reviews across Product Line projects. Review, improve, and update Product Line design practices and standards within the relevant discipline. Lead or support teams working on organizational initiatives, technology development, productivity improvements, or business-critical issues. Develop action plans to resolve technical issues, manage engineering risks, and drive cross-functional closure. Collaborate with Project Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Testing, Field Service, and other functions to ensure customer requirements are understood and met. Apply technical expertise to new-energy solutions, including hydrogen, CO2, and energy storage. Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement while documenting technical data in accordance with engineering policies and procedures. Continue developing multidisciplinary and cross-Product Line expertise. Qualifications
