Block is laying off more than 4,000 people, taking headcount from over 10,000 to just under 6,000. CEO Jack Dorsey argues AI tools let smaller, flatter teams do the work.

Company cited AI: Dorsey and the CFO said AI tools let smaller teams automate more of the work.
Block laid off 931 employees, about 8% of its staff, in cuts CEO Jack Dorsey said were not aimed at hitting a financial target or at replacing people with AI.
Each layoff is an announcement a company made or confirmed, with at least one source. Employee totals add the numbers as stated: “about”, “at least” and “up to” figures count as given, and layoffs without a number count toward companies and layoffs only. Headquarters filters use where a company is based, not where the cuts happen.
