Microsoft is cutting about 4,800 jobs worldwide, most of them in its Xbox gaming unit through fiscal 2027, and is spinning off four game studios; its commercial sales business is also affected.
Two months after its May round, Microsoft began cutting about 9,000 jobs, under 4% of its global workforce, across teams, regions and experience levels, including its gaming division.
Microsoft said it was laying off about 6,000 people, roughly 3% of its workforce, across all levels, teams and regions, partly to thin management layers. It said the cuts were not based on performance.
Each layoff is an announcement a company made or confirmed, with at least one source. Employee totals add the numbers as stated: “about”, “at least” and “up to” figures count as given, and layoffs without a number count toward companies and layoffs only. Headquarters filters use where a company is based, not where the cuts happen.
